Brings Workshops & Local Designers to a Screen Near You!

Brooklyn Fashion Film Festival

Brooklyn Fashion Film Festival (BKFFF) is a new platform that leverages technology, social media, Social TV and connected TV for creative enterprise.   Working with independent designers and professionals in fashion, BKFFF maximizes social, local, mobile marketing and connected TV to provide a niche for Creatives and Consumers onto a global platform.

Carded for November 13th – 20th 2011, Creatives & Consumers from across the globe are invited to join them… virtually!  Organizers targeted the “innovative and bold” designers and directed them to capture the “story” behind their lines in a 3-15 minute video; participate on a live streamed video panel; give a presentation to trade or connect with consumers all with video-enabled technology.

“We’ve been able to stream since 2006 and have been using video-conferencing since around the same time.  We had the ability to live stream since ‘livestream.com was Mogulus’ and have been able to connect directly to products using www.Klickable.TV,” noted Sandy.  “The challenge has been getting the designers’ BUSINESS ready to leverage technology!”

BKFFF includes educational components and discussions targeting the creative independent and emerging sector.  During the week, seminars will be screened live, simulcast or shown on demand.  Sandy has developed a unique virtual incubator program that addresses the entire PLM (Product Line Management) from concept to consumer support and has used this same technology to work with designers abroad!

Web Video enables meetings, showcases, sales, support and services, global access to sourcing, trade and a new consumer base.  BKFFF as an online event removes the limitations of location by being virtual and accessible to participants and viewers around the world. The group secured the support and sponsorship of several technology companies among them; www.vyou.com and www.vokle.com.

A crucial aspect of this is the importance of culture in adapting technology.  In adapting, it is learning what the sector or niche needs and finding the technology which best suits the need.  Its understanding things work differently online and creating new processes within which to create successfully. This is a process that necessitates the willingness to test and experience.

These creative entrepreneurs are very aware that one of the main benefits in technology is that it opens up the access to a much larger marketplace.  BKFFF has expanded to include creative professionals in emerging and independent Fashion, Beauty and Styling sectors working with the notion that Creativity  +Culture  +Community +Collaboration +Corporations results in an increase in commerce!

The event extends offline with a showcase at the newly opened Brooklyn Park Slope branch of Chouchounettte.  A creativity and style collaboration with Tony nominated choreographer Marlies Yearby to tie designers into www.DanceHackit.com at Kumble Theater for the Performing Arts at Brooklyn’s Long Island University will close out on November 20 by providing online support for Brenda Brunson Bey’s celebration of 20 years in the industry with a “Fashion for Food” initiative!

As a body, the independent creative community can offer

  • §  Stories and content, video images and words for consumers and buyers to peruse
  • §  Fashion Films- Introducing independent designers
  • §  A source for independent designers to operate from the comfort of their “office”
  • §  Consumers shopping designers’ products and services via live video
  • §  From any screen; PC, mobile, tablet, notebook, even IpTV- via Mobile Optimized site
  • §  Independent Fashion Business Seminars (online)
  • §  Panel discussions on industry issues; styling, selling, FIT
  • §  Consumers can have their Q&A answered on fit, styling, color by professionals
  • §  Limited-edition custom and private label offering; fashion, accessories, home, beauty  and green products!

Sandy’s Passion is using her understanding of emerging technology to create platforms that facilitate the adaptation, adaption and use (of tech) in creative enterprise!  She is, however, aware that there is a steep learning curve and does not hesitate to use this same technology to teach others across geographic and language barriers!  Participants will include colleagues from France, St. Lucia and Trinidad.

This introduction is a crucial point in pulling together several key aspects.  BKFFF and DANCEHACKIT will be developed as platforms to support their respective creative communities!

What they’re saying:

“…removes the limitations of location by being virtual and accessible to viewers around the globe.” … Marlies Yearby, Tony award-nominated Choreographer of Broadway musical “RENT”

“I love the opportunity to play with and explore technology!” – this years participant

“Finally, you mean I will actually get to see the clothes!” – Industry professional on  attending the virtual Brooklyn Fashion Film Festival

“We’re not like other “Fashion Weeks” and that’s by design, “says Project Leader Bonnie Sandy who goes on to say, “this is how we feed our families we need efforts that “covered” converts!   I am an independent designer who took a hiatus to design the tools I needed.  I share them with my colleagues and other creatives so we can thrive.  BKFFF’s goal is to have the creative community close out their fiscal year in the black.”
